"In order for there to be a balance in society, there needs to be the people that are willing to do the things that the majority aren't willing to do" -DMY

The Diichotomy design team follows 10 controversial design principles and language which is carried out through out each Diichotomy piece. The design language is as follows:
Diichotomy Visions Design Language
-
1. A division or contrast between two things that are opposed or entirely different (Dichotomy)
a. The idea of integrating contrasting elements to a design , or to even do an inverted version of what is expected of the design to be. -
2. Functional/wearable art or art on clothes
a. Finding the division between art and fashion and using that as the binding principle within Diichotomy designs. (Predominantly knowledge based art for some History lessons)
b. Celebrating African abtract art as prints on the clothing items -
3. Integration of unique upholstery material textures in fashion
a. The use of unexpected upholstery materials on designs as features, using materials intended for curtains, cushions, Carpets, blankets as feature materials on clothing items.
-
4. Luxury street wear fashion designs
The feel and look of every Diichotomy designs is meant to integrate luxury wear with every street fashion , through the selection of luxurious textures and cozy colors Diichotomy finds ways to bring you exlusive luxury street wear.
-
5. Predominantly Unisex / non-gender specific wear
Diichotomy clothing has no gender, any body and any human who can invision themselves having a diichotomy piece part of their unique closet collection, can acquire the items regardless of their gender. It's just up to you how you style it.
-
6. Inspirational Quotes on Clothes
One of Diichotomy's biggest goals is to inspire the next generation of doers and creative, therefore in subtle ways the designs will incorporate quotes by people who've inspired the DMY team to do what they're doing.
-
7. Predominantly Black or white as base colours
Diichotomy clothing were initially inspired by the concept of using contrasting colours and materials to discover possible outcomes in the use of these contrasting elements. As the designs evolved into more intricate interpretations of this concept, majority of Diichotomy items use black, white or both as base colours of Designs , the Dichotomy is in combining another contrasting material that is a primary or secondary colour as the main driving concept to the integrated opposites.
-
8. Feature colours: primary colours/secondary colours red, yellow ,blue.Secondary colours purple , green, orange.
Diichotomy doesn't have box that it fits into, but part of its exploration process it's been discovered that the dichotomy team tends to find the best ways to communicate the concept of "Dichotomy" using primary and secondary colours, although the combination of these tends to introduce another visual effect that removes the obvious interpretation of the concept. These colours are the main driving force to the selection of materials, patterns and systems to implement the concept in a controversial way
-
9. Integration of Architecture into fashion / accessories
With the fundamental Architectural skills developed by the design team at DMY , the Diichotomy studio incorporates features of architectural concepts , sketches, models and overall ideas into the clothing designs , whether it be printed, embroidery, patterns, or even 3D printed and laser-cut haberdasheries.

10. Lines that connect
One of the most primitive ways to start a design is through drawing lines that later form an idea. In Diichotomy the designs incorporate a series of lines that create the overall pattern of the clothing item, there is no order, direction or system to this. It's just lines that form an idea.

DIICHOTOMY - Background -
Dichotomy as a word is defined as a division or contrast between two things that are or are represented as being opposed or entirely different. One Looks at the brand DIICHOTOMY and a myriad of questions arise. What does it represent ? How did it bloom to life ? what is the core essence of bringing about a contrast between two things into the DNA of a brand?.
A fortress of ideas is deduced and presented in a manner that human consciousness has not fully comprehended. Their pieces invoke human perception and create a beautiful sight for eye candy. I sat down with the Founder and Diichotomy Members; Khumo Madlopha, Pilot, Drone Pilot and Diichotomy visuals creative director, Bongane Zulu an Architect, Designer, Artist and Business Enthusiasts and the head designer, creative director and founding Member of Diichotomy Visions apparel and Luyanda Mntande an Accountant, the financial advisor and finance administrator at DIICHOTOMY all hailing from Boksburg in the East Rand of Johannesburg to have a conversation about the roots of the brand and dive deeper into the ins and outs of DIICHOTOMY.
DIICHOTOMY“When two things that don’t come together do the outcome is Art, so Diichotomy is solely based on bringing beauty from two different things.”
"The two I’s was firstly the Government not approving of the original name and also being an individual in the world living with other people it is of trivial importance to have a circle of people working actively together with a common purpose, hence we squared up the two I’s taking into consideration that even though dichotomy brings about a division between two things at the end of the day we are creating together to make a great piece of art but also maintaining our individuality.”
“A substantive amount of inspiration for DIICHOTOMY also came from how we as a collective have perceived the reality of how so many things are put into black and white and we have seen that there is no need for that division and through this perception we understand that there shouldn’t be a division based on what the different elements of black and white possess. The upbringing and backgrounds of black and white people shouldn’t be a stumbling block into creating something beautiful between black and white. Through this ideology DIICHOTOMY aims to bring about a new stance in creativity by imposing elements that have previously been used as a divisive tool.”
"Most things are based around good or bad, Yes and No ,ones and zero and what excites me the most is even though it stems from division everything about DIICHOTOMY equates to a whole piece. Put simply DIICHOTOMY is about appreciating the Yings and Yangs of our realities as a people and intentionally filtering it into everyday lifestyle, fashion and Design.”
"It is without hindsight that our primitive existence has a plethora of dualities that bring about certain contrasts and differences. DIICHOTOMY is embedded in a wealth of divisions that consciously come together to create singular pieces of art. Their growth has been organically orchestrated and will soon become a permeating force in everyday lifestyle, fashion and design."

With exclusivity being one of Diichotomy's main priorities, with each design there will be a limited number of items produced per size, this will limit people who are part of the Diichotomy community wearing the same items , therefore each item being exclusive to each individual. Some designs will purely be produced specifically for recurring DMY clients and community members. The maximum amount of items per design to be produced will be 30 units. With that brings opportunity to explore more of Diichotomy's unique designs.

The LOGO
"Diichotomy is the needle that's cutting through the clothes, and the next generation is the thread that keeps the cloth together" Informal recyclers in South Africa over the years in different settings, have become the definition of struggle, dirt and possible threat. A society cannot function if there is no balance. The irony is that , informal recyclers clean up the environments of the people who perceive themselves as clean, but see the cleaners of their environments as dirty. Some people have to do the things that the majority isn't willing to do , and Diichotomy is driven by that ideology. Balance is required for societies to function effectively Diichotomy logo
